July 28: Japanese Bondage Night (Sliding Scale Lesson + Practice) at Little Boxes Theater

July 15, 2015 at 6:45 am (general)

In partnership with Little Boxes Theater, I’m proud to announce the next of many low-key, sliding scale classes.

I’ll design the classes to be approachable by rank beginners, but challenging and thought provoking for more advanced practitioners. (We encourage the more experienced students to help the beginners.)

We are practicing basic ties, but we are studying the art of tying.

We ask for a sliding scale donation of $20-$30 per person. All money collected goes to the space. Little Boxes Theater is a wonderful space accessible by public transit. First-timers will not be turned away for lack of funds, and we do have Volunteer positions available.

Space may run out! Guarantee your spot at Link Soon!

No-one turned away for lack of funds. If you want to reserve a spot but can’t afford the recommended donation, contact me for volunteer opportunities.

The evening’s schedule is as follows:

 7:45 Doors open
8:15 Doors close
8:00 - 8:20 Setup and optional stretching exercises, led by Aaron S.
8:30 - 10:00 Lesson
10:00 - 10:30 Practice and free time.
  • Rope should be 7-8m in length, 4-6mm width, and made of natural fibers.
  • If you don’t have that, we have practice rope for you to borrow.
  • People being tied should wear form fitting clothing that does not restrict movement(tight t-shirts, leggings,) or be comfortable naked. People tying should also wear non-restrictive clothing.
  • We have rubber mats, but you may want to bring your own yoga mat or fluffy towel.
  • You don’t need to bring a partner, but singles must be willing to tie and be tied.
  • No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but please donate if you can.
  • This is a photography positive event. If you wish to not be photographed, we will have an photo off-limits area.
  • Two cats now live at the theater. Our apologies to the allergic.

We’d like to show beginners the basic mechanics of simple but effective tying, and create an environment where more experienced participants can explore the subtleties of Japanese Rope Bondage. We’d like everyone to follow the same patterns. There’s a lot to be learned when a whole room is doing the same tie. Again, we are practicing basic ties, we art studying the art of tying.

Our goal is to keep an air of mindfullness and respect in the space, even during the after lesson practice. Please keep your voices low and side conversations to a minimum on the practice floor. There’s an area for socialization, but also please keep the noise levels down. We are aiming for an atmosphere where partners can hear each other’s breathing.

Likewise, while the space has overhead points, we’d ask that students not do wild scenes or over-challenging suspensions simply for the sake of suspending. We may do future events focused on suspension, but at first we’d like to avoid a pissing match or rodeo.
